If you want your child to grow up to be a superstar DJ, then you’d best get busy conceiving in late March. That’s Tiesto’s astrological advice, according to a recent interview in The Age. “The top 10 DJs, basically all of them are Capricorns,” the Dutch don said. “Calvin Harris and I are born on the same day, then there’s Hardwell, Deadmau5, Skrillex, all Capricorns – crazy, right?”
There may be something to Tijs’ theory: if you look at Forbes’ ‘Electronic Cash Kings’ list of the 13 biggest earners in dance music, almost half of them were born between December 21 and January 20 (everyone except David Guetta, Avicii, Afrojack, Zedd, Kaskade, Steve Angello and Steve Aoki).
Mystic Tiesto puts this down to the innate qualities of Capricorns, as determined by the zodiac: being hard-working perfectionists and leaders. (Depending on which Zodiac you read, Capricorns – including Deadmau5 – are also credited as feeling “best playing it safe, since this is a fail-safe way to get to the top,” being “cautious and responsible” and “always playing fair.”)
Perhaps all the time Tiësto’s been spending in Las Vegas of late has had an influence on his ideas about fate, luck and mysticism – or maybe there really is a secret cult of Capricorn superstar DJs.
